I love the never ending crafts you can make with a pot holder. To turn a pot holder into a Flat Iron Holder, I first found this cute polka dot potholder at Dollar Tree. Then I sewed up the side vertically and along the bottom. And now maybe my new Chi will last as long as it should this time!
You could also fold it the other way and sew horizontally and along the bottom for a sunglass holder! That's my next project.
That is so genius! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to try this, but I have some questions. Do you cut the potholder in half first? I'm slightly confused by that part and why do you need to sew the bottom?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to do this idea! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCould you also use the pocket to actually hold the straightener in? Then, you could cut it in half, sew down the side of each half, and give one to a friend as a gift?
ReplyDeleteAt first I was thinking the same thing, but the outside of the pocket is just fabric, so there is no insulation.
DeleteLove your project! I just wanted to let you know that I featured it today on my blog Sew Rockin'. You can check it out at: http://www.sewrockin.com/2011/12/09/you-sew-rock-me-fridays-8/
ReplyDeleteAwesome job, I can't wait to see what else you come up with!
Jamie
She means to fold it in half. Then stitch along the long side...all the way down and around the bottom. This leaves only the top open to put the flat iron in.
ReplyDeleteI would love to feature this in our upcoming issue of child couture magazine would you like to share this with our readers email me at childcouturemagazine@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. Just to let you know if you wrap your cord like that it cause shorts in the wires. That happened to one of my CHI. Thought you would like to know
ReplyDeleteThis is so creative! Thank you for the idea. I may not fold it as tight so that I can loosly stuff my cord in the pocket part. I can't wait to make it!
ReplyDeleteanother great potholder craft--turn it so it's diamond shaped, fold the left side over and then the right keeping the point at the bottom. Sew it up and it will hold your scissors (hope this makes sense)
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get this potholder!? It's so cute!
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteI saw your feature over on Dollar Store Crafts. What a great idea! I was thinking not too long ago that I needed to create something that would hold my flat iron. Smart thinking! And super cute. :-)

I love this idea! Here's something no one has mentioned... the little hanging loop for the potholder makes it easy to store your curling or flat iron! I'm going to make several and hang them with hooks. Thanks ever so much!
ReplyDeleteJust saw this, what a great idea! How will it make your flat iron last longer though, mine seem to die sooner than I'd like too.
ReplyDeleteI think this is so cute! I hope I can find some cute hot pads like you did. I was thinking that if you sew it together and leave the pocket on the outside (which you may have done, I can't tell) you could stick a comb in the pocket or bobby pins clipped to the top of the pocket. Cute gift for my daughter going to college. Thanks a bunch for the inspiration/idea.
ReplyDeleteWrap your cord in a figure eight around the iron. Thats the best way to make your cord last longer! :) learned in beauty school!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! I made sunglass holders from potholders several years ago for my granddaughters when we went to the beach to make it easy for them to store them but had not thought about using one for curling irons and I think the idea is wonderful!
