My 9.00 Ruffle Shower Curtain

My name is Tami and I am a Ruffle-aholic.  There I said it.  And why would I not have Ruffles in my bathroom?  I made this Ruffle Shower Curtain the other day after thinking about it for a long time.  It was a lot of work, but really cheap.  This is how I made it....

I bought three twin flat sheets at Walmart.  They were only $3 a piece.  I bought two to cut up and one to sew the ruffles onto.  You could also repurpose some sheets you already have.

Then I cut out 11 ruffles 9.5 inches wide out of the sheets lengthwise. (You could make more or less ruffles).  First, I ironed each strip.  I can hear my husband laughing as he reads this.  (I really hate ironing).  Then I hemmed the bottom of each ruffle strip.  I didn't even have to hem the sides because the sheet was already hemmed.  No need to hem the top because you will be sewing it onto the base sheet anyway.  Then I gathered each strip and sewed the ruffles onto the base sheet.

My base sheet was just one plain twin flat sheet that I had taken about 4 inches off of at  the bottom.  Other than that I did not alter it at all.  It just depends how long you want it to be, but width wise it was already perfect for my shower.  After I made all the ruffles and sewed them on, I made 12 button holes at the top.  That was it.

These sell for about $118 at Anthropologie.  So, $9 and some hard work isn't too shabby.

Disclaimer:  I am in no way a great seamstress.  I know my ruffles are not perfect and I'm sure there are better ways to make this with interfacing and all that jazz, but this is what worked for me.  :)

  9. Your shower curtain looks nice! Here, I discovered that bright colors like mint green and sky blue can be a great combination. Your curtain reminds me of my best friend, by the way. I remembered that she has a dress that looks like this one. ;) She'll definitely make a laugh about it once she sees it.
